What is interventional radiology?

Interventional radiology is a medical specialty that treats conditions through a pinhole using real-time imaging for guidance, rather than through a surgical incision. Because there is no open surgery, most procedures are outpatient and recovery is measured in days instead of weeks.

How long is recovery after an embolization procedure?

Most Texas Endovascular patients go home within a few hours and return to light activity in one to three days. Full recovery varies by procedure, but it is typically much shorter than recovery from surgery, which can take several weeks.

Is embolization covered by insurance?

Most major insurance plans, including Medicare, cover uterine fibroid embolization, prostate artery embolization, vein treatment and PAD care when medically necessary. Texas Endovascular verifies your benefits and reviews your expected out-of-pocket cost before treatment is scheduled.

Do I need a referral to see an interventional radiologist?

Most patients can schedule directly with Texas Endovascular without a physician referral. Some insurance plans, particularly HMOs, do require one. Our scheduling team confirms your plan's requirements when you call
