• Pain
  Swollen blood vessels can cause discomfort, especially during bowel movements or during prolonged sitting. The pain might range from minor to severe, depending on the hemorrhoids' size and location.
  
  
• Rectal bleeding
  External hemorrhoids may also bleed. Bleeding can occur during bowel movements or because of straining. The blood is typically bright red and might be seen on toilet paper or in the toilet bowl.
